Mike Murphy, London School of Economics & Political Science

Finding Synopsis

Projection models of the older population, their resources and needs in decades to come are required to provide indications of future demandand inform long-term care and pensions policy. The research project ‘Modelling Needs andResources of Older People to 2030 (MAP2030)’developed a set of projection models to estimatefuture numbers of older people, and their familycircumstances, income, pensions, savings, disability, and formal and informal care needs. It producedcompatible projections of public and privateexpenditure on pensions, disability benefits andcare services under different reform scenarios forpensions and long-term care funding under a rangeof alternative population futures that continue tocontribute to on-going policy debate.
